Sanity is the mistake budget, not a countdown you should pretend to know exactly. Current guides agree that exhausting it ends the run. Gamezebo also reports that a wrong admit and a wrong reject both reduce it.
Separate facts from scenario inputs
Three statements are supported:
- Sanity is the failure resource.
- Admitting an anomalous visitor can reduce it.
- Rejecting a genuine visitor can also reduce it.
The exact loss per event is not published in the official listing or API record checked for this site. The Sanity Scenario Simulator therefore asks you to enter the value observed in your current run. Its output is labeled Scenario, not a developer formula.
Read the warning states
Gamezebo reports darker vision, auditory hallucinations, and visible damage or graffiti inside the house as Sanity falls. These effects are practical signals even when the exact meter change is unclear.
If two or more warning states are active, switch from fast routing to deliberate verification:
- finish the visitor’s dialogue;
- check the named room state;
- compare normal CCTV with night vision;
- do not accept an appearance-only conclusion;
- record the decision before returning to chores.
Count decisions, not guesses
Keep a small run log with four fields: current displayed Sanity, wrong admits, wrong rejects, and remaining visitor decisions you want to model. The simulator uses plain subtraction from those player inputs.
For example, if you enter 70 current Sanity, a scenario loss of 10, and three possible mistakes, the tool shows 40. That is arithmetic based on your scenario, not a claim that the game always removes 10.
Do not let the tool decide the visitor
The Sanity tool does not estimate whether a visitor is real. It only shows the result of the mistake assumptions you enter. Use the Visitor Tell Tracker first, then model the risk you are willing to take.
Unknown or conflicting tells remain unknown in both tools. They do not receive a hidden confidence score.
Recover the route after a mistake
After a visible Sanity loss, pause and record what happened. Repeating the same unsupported check is more dangerous than losing a few seconds on chores. Open the camera check order and confirm which evidence channel the visitor actually required.
The first-night guide explains how to return to the board without losing the current chore state.
Frequently asked questions
What exact amount does a wrong decision remove?
The checked official material does not publish that value, so this site keeps it as a player-entered scenario input.
What actions are reported to reduce Sanity?
Gamezebo reports both admitting an anomaly and rejecting a genuine visitor as Sanity mistakes.
What does low Sanity look like?
Reported signs include darker vision, auditory hallucinations, and visible house degradation.
